Uniform Rules

UNIFORM FOR BOYS AND GIRLS


Bottoms


Acceptable

  1. -Colors: Only tan khaki are to be worn on campus. (not green, brown, white, or other colors) - All skirts, pants, shorts, slacks, skorts and skirted jumpers must be plain, solid color, twill, corduroy and/or traditional tan khaki color. Prohibited: - Any non-tan colored khakis (ie. green, brown, white, or other colors) -Jeans or denim of any color. - Any colored trim, stripes, embroidery, decorations, writing or pictures on pant pockets or down the leg. - No overalls and/or suspenders can be worn. - No sweatpants, spandex, form fitting, bicycle shorts, boxer shorts, knit pants/skirts or silk material. - Pants cannot be cutoff, frayed or oversized.


Reminders: - All pants must be of appropriate size, with waist of the garment worn at the student’s waist. - Length of shorts, skirts or jumpers must be mid-thigh or longer


Tops

Acceptable

  1. -All shirts must be white, dark purple, navy or gray. - All long/short sleeved polo, oxford, dress shirts and turtlenecks shirts must be uniform color. - Only Discovery Academy-sponsored tee shirts may be worn.

  2. -All shirts must be tucked in throughout the school day. Prohibited - All shirts that are sleeveless, considered a tank top, low cut, backless, expose the bare midriff, see- through or sheer materials may not be worn.


Acceptable: Shoes Hats, Hair, Sunglasses, Jewelry:


Prohibited

  1. -Distracting hairstyles such as colored weaves, spikes, mo-hawks, designs in the hair and/or eyebrows, etc. may not be worn. - Sunglasses, hats, visors, bandanas, do-rags, headbands/sweatbands, picks, combs, etc. may not be worn at school.


  1. -Large pieces of jewelry are not allowed (i.e. medallions, necklaces, etc.) Students are not permitted to wear clothing, jewelry, buttons, haircuts or other items or markings that are offensive, suggestive, or indecent, associated with gangs, encourage use of drugs, alcohol or national origin, marital status, race, religion or sex.



School Administrators have final authority concerning uniform/dress code policy at Discovery Academy of Lake Alfred.OSS)

  1. -Tennis shoes, closed-toed, and/or closed-toed with heel strapped worn properly. Prohibited: - Backless shoes, cleats, flip flops, thongs, heels, bedroom slippers or other footwear that can be considered as hazardous or dangerous.


Reminder:


- Walking boots may be worn with jeans and slacks only and must be covered by the pant legs. - Boots may NOT be worn with shorts, skirts, or dresses.


Jackets and Coats

- Jackets and/or coats (Any Color) must open completely in the front and easy to remove.- These garments may not display offensive language, symbols, etc. - Hoods found on jackets and/or sweatshirts may NOT be worn throughout the school day in/out of class.

Pullover Garments Note: Any coat or jacket that opens half way in the front is considered to be a pullover.

Pullover Garments (sweater, vest, sweater vest, and sweatshirt) must:

1). Be in the following solid colors: white, navy blue, dark purple or gray.

2). May not have any colored trim, stripes, decoration, large lettering, etc.

3). All shirts worn underneath must be the school tee shirt or uniform shirts.


Other Dress Code Rules:

  1. -Clothing which is considered too tight or too loose is not appropriate for school.

  2. -Tee shirts that are worn under school shirts must be SOLID WHITE or uniform T-shirts.

  3. --Non-uniform colored shirts are not permitted to be worn under uniform shirts.

  4. -Flannel shirts or similar garments may not be worn as jackets.

  5. -No clothing items may be tied around the waist at any time.


P.E. UNIFORMS


Girls and boys P.E. uniforms are available for purchase in the front office.


BOOK CARRIERS There is a no book bag / backpack policy at Discovery Academy.Parents are encouraged to have your child refrain from bringing these items to school.  We feel that this is in the best interest of our students and makes for a safer environment.

Acceptable: Trapper keepers, zippered notebooks.


Prohibited: Book bags, duffel bags, roll bags, backpacks, sport sacks, satchels, laptop computer cases, tote bags and large purses.


*Administration will make final decisions on acceptable purses or bags.
