Pasta for Pennies, to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is in full swing!

Olive Garden’s Pasta for Pennies supports the fight against blood-related cancers, helps fund important research initiatives and aims to improve the quality of life for many patients and their families.  Since 1994, Pasta for Pennies has raised more than $36 million to fight leukemia and lymphoma and to provide a wide range of services to patients and their families.

Discovery Academy has two exciting new additions to our Pasta for Pennies campaign this year:

- “Soak the Ship!” Each week during the Pasta for Pennies fundraiser, the advisory class that collects the most money will get to throw buckets of water at a principal or dean.  Since DALA is the home of the Voyagers, we’re using a large cutout of a ship, complete with a porthole for the “captain”.   If your class is tops for donations earned in a week, they’ll get to “Soak the Ship!”

- “ Best Seat in the House!” In the courtyard every morning during our Pasta for Pennies fundraiser, students can buy a raffle ticket for 50 cents.  Each Friday, during Disco Live, a name will be picked from the raffle and the winner will get a luxurious, cushioned chair for a day.  Plus, an administrator will carry their belongings to each class!  Students can buy as many entries as they’d like each week.  After the weekly drawing, all tickets will be tossed away, so please encourage students to buy a ticket each week!

The Discovery Academy Robotics Team

named the "Digital Dragons" consisted of Judah Grooms, Alisha Hunt, Megan Cubert, Makayla Steiner, Jessica Morgan, and Daniel Burrage.  This team worked two days a week for 1.5 hours each day to build, and rebuild programs - program and reprogram their robots.  The team was given a challenge from the US FIRST company to

complete for competition.  This years theme was Power Puzzle - aimed at bringing awareness to the students and others about the ever growing need

for more recycling of renewable resources and a more intelligent and manageable use of non-renewable resources.  Our robotics team took home the “Power Wars: Supreme Chancellor’s Award” which was 1st place in the competition.  The Discovery Academy Robotics Team is sponsored and advised by Mr. Yale and Mr. Buchanan.
